Join the Anthony Walker Family of Volunteers
Outreach team to support people experiencing hate crime.

We are currently looking for new volunteers to help us. Our ‘Outreach Support Team’ offer emotional support and practical guidance to those who are experiencing hate crime such as racial harassment. Unless you have experienced this, it is difficult to understand what it feels like to live in fear for your safety or knowing that you cannot walk through your city without experiencing abuse. If you have counselling skills and would like to help us help others to recover from this type of experience, please contact the AWF office to enquire about the service and the training and support we can offer.

Working with young people
We would also like to encourage volunteers to help us organise events in both arts and sports for young people. Do you have experience and skills in working with young people? Our services for young people rely on the generosity of those who share our common values of a fair and equal society that enables young people of all races and creeds to come together through sharing fun, positive activities. Creating communities free of bigotry and prejudice requires something of all of us. Whatever your passion – sport, art, mentoring, youth work – we would welcome your contribution.

Youth Conference – November 2009
Sponsored by the GMB, in partnership with the Tackling Racism – promoting Diversity Youth Group and Liverpool University, this event will bring together 600 children over two days to participate in workshops, performances and activities to learn about how they can help shape the future of our communities. If you would like your school to take part please telephone the AWF office on 0151 237 3974.

FUNdraisers
Like any charity, we need generous hearts to help us raise money to fund our mission to build stronger communities. Our Foundation prides itself on enabling people to raise funds and have fun at the same time. Sponsored walks, dinner parties, raffles, supermarket bag packs, school collections and non uniform days, Arts events, Sports events, cake sales, car boot sales, cheese and wine parties; whatever you enjoy doing! Our office staff will support you so please give them a call. 0151 237 3974

Keith Keeling - Sports Co-ordinator

This is my fourth year as a volunteer at the annual summer festival at Greenbank Academy. My full time job is Sports Coach with Knowsley Council. I enjoy organising the football and basketball tournaments at the festival and usually my sons come along to help with organising. Its great fun and very rewarding. I must thank Karen Billington of Liverpool Basketball Club and City Hoops Basketball Club as well as Everton Tigers and Everton FC for their unstinting support in managing these events. It really is a team effort! I have met some wonderful people and made many new friends through my involvement with the Anthony Walker Foundation and look forward to this year’s festival with great anticipation.

Tina Millan – Volunteer Office Administrator
I am currently studying for a law degree at university and am also a busy working mum who does a part time job in a local pub to help supplement my grant. I still find time to spend at least one day each week working at the Foundation office on Dale Street in Liverpool City centre. There is always plenty of administration to attend to, making phone calls and responding to enquiries from the public. It has given me valuable experience and I know I am making a contribution to something worthwhile. I am interested in Charity Law and believe that Charities make a vital contribution in providing services to communities. For Charities such as the AWF to do their work effectively, requires the dedication of a Board of Trustees who give their time and expertise free, advising on how the Anthony Walker Foundation can achieve its objectives. There are guidelines and laws issued by Government through the Charities Commission to safeguard all the stakeholders. Learning about charity governance is giving me valuable experience for my future career.

Dave Sullivan - Festival Tournament Co-ordinator (Basketball)
Over the past 4 years I have enjoyed working for the Anthony Walker Foundation, meeting new people and promoting basketball in Merseyside. When we first started the festival tournament there was only a hand full of teams but this year we have 8 teams from all over the UK!

I would just like to say a big thank you to all the people from local basketball clubs that have helped me make this possible. A special thanks also to those visitors who are travelling from London and Wales for the 2009 Tournament at Greenbank Academy on August 8th and 9th. We are always eager to hear from clubs and teams around the country who would like to participate and make this tournament a truly national event.

If you feel that your organisation or you as an individual can contribute in any way towards our Festival entertainment please contact:
