Welcome from Gee Walker

It doesn’t seem like a year has passed since I wrote the last introduction.

There are so many events and achievements I could recall and so many people to thank for their support for the Anthony Walker Foundation.

It is important to celebrate our achievements and generosity. This was especially evident at our recent fund raising masquerade ball at the Adelphi hotel in Liverpool. Not only did we raise much needed funds of over £6000, we also celebrated the generosity of our citizenship award winners. These unsung heroes are a shining example of humanity that reminds us all why we strive to build strong communities – communities were no child has to grow up in fear.

At a recent youth conference on the subject of hate crime, at the international slavery museum, I had the opportunity to meet over 140 young people – representatives from all the schools the foundation has worked with over the past year. I listened to their stories, poems, songs and their drama performances and shared both laughter and tears with them.

They are the future and I am greatly encouraged that they are a generation who can help heal the wounds of my generation. Children are not born racist – sadly this is something they learn from us adults.

I am always touched by the response of so many people when i am invited to speak at conferences, schools and communities. Your support is much appreciated and gives me the strength and encouragement I need.

We live in difficult times. There is much talk of cuts and unemployment. The hardship experienced by so many families can be a heavy burden and so we must all try that little bit harder to be a neighbour, a friend and someone who offers comfort or even a smile to a stranger.

Thank you for your continued generosity and support.
